I am a retired educator who is joined by amazing volunteer tutors. I formed this nonprofit and our blog after returning to a public school to help and found that there were more struggling young students than ever before. We tutor one-on-one after-school and summers with kids who struggle with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Autism. My goal is to educate and inspire communities through our sites to see the potential in children who learn differently and then form an after-school tutoring program of their own. We incorporate many ways to engage these young learners, including a trained therapy dog who listens to them read and senior citizens who love to listen to the children read to them.

The Mission of this nonprofit is to encourage young students that they can learn. We specifically work with those children who have ADHD, learning disorders, or high-functioning autistics. Our vision is to strengthen young children’s academic and social skills, primarily in the foundational areas of reading and language acquisition, so that these youngsters will progress through the upper grades with greater self confidence to the completion of their secondary education.
Many children with learning difficulties have high IQ scores. The following are some learning differences that could signal a caregiver to seek help for their young student:
- Reading is slow and tiring
- Confusion in sounding out words
- Forgets foundational sight words
- Spelling mastery is difficult
- Handwriting is unevenly sized
- Reading comprehension is sporadic
- Understanding number concepts and sequences very labored
- Memorizing basic arithmetic facts difficult
- Test-taking takes longer than usual-some questions may be overlooked by accident because student becomes overwhelmed
- Distracts easily
- Self-esteem often decreases as academic demands increase
